I would pick college or a branch much less riskier that applies more to civilian life like um the Coast Guard, but regardless of the branch they will give you money for college(MGIB), I recommend Coast Guard because you can possibly get an ample amount of time to take evening or online courses like what I'm doing.

I joined the National Guard in order TO go to college even though I haven't went yet. I would say for the niggas that been slacking off in school the military is a good option. College costs are OUTRAGEOUS right now but most military branches are paying close to if not full tuition. The Guard is at 100% tuition right now to just be part time!!
If I could do it all over again though I woulda made straight A's in high school, went to college, & had a 60k a year job by now instead of playing catch up. I think the military is a good option though for the lil knucklehead niggas that BS'ed all through high school then waited til senior year to realize they had to do something with their life. I don't have any regrets & this is my 7th year. I'd rather go do the military thing, get paid, & go to school rather than try to make it thru school thru grants & loans & have to pay back those loans for the next 10 years... But that's just my opinion....

I would say go to the airforce like me. I have a degree in aeronautical science with a minor in culinary arts(had to take extra classes because they don't go together) and it was all paid for by the military. I also got a job lined up for me when I get out doing the same thing that I do in the airforce and it pays 6 figures.

dang, it my junior yr in highschool and i been talkin 2 so many recruiters, i just about narrowed it down - marines(challenges, discipline, action), army(moms in it), coast gaurd(sumthing new), airforce(higher living standards and most successfull after retirment)............... i still have plenny of time to narrow it down more though.................. also airforce il have more time to go to college wich is exact opposite in the marines, all have same benifits but in airforces u get to make more use of them

well theres things in this that yull really need to think about here it is: Army-serving your country for a good cause, a chance to better yourself. pretty good pay, might give u a chance at a career when u leave the army.INSURNCE, COMPENSATION:smt045
Negatives- u have a higher chance of getting killed, the family of course because u have to consider how it will affect them like worryin aobut u if your alright overall the phsycological effect itll have on your family.
College- chance to further education. various career choices:smt045, a chance to better your self . a chance at getting a career.yull have ppl around u who have the same goals n will give u good peer pressure.
Negatives- who said yull get a job in what u majored in? ive heard many stories of ppl who went to college n didnt get or are still lookin for a job in their major . also the same things in high school like bad peer pressure doin da wrong things that wont better u .

I agree with Airial that the Air Force is also a great choice the only thing though about the Coast Guard and Air Force is that you have to get above average scores on your ASVAB to get in because it's mad technical, but you will gain skills that are more inline with the civilian world, the Coast Guard has many jobs that the Navy does but what takes about 4 or 5 different Navy jobs is equal to 1 Coast Guard job, so we have more versatility and hands on training. Coast Guard would be the best choice if you have a family though even if you are on a ship the longest you would be gone for would be 3 months and alot of the Coast Guard jobs are more land orientated than sea thats why I be havin so much time to mess around with the internet all day, and people at my unit are allowed to miss 2-3 days a week so they can attend daytime college classes so we definitely care about your future. I wouldn't tell somebody to sign up to something if the risk of mortality is high I'm just trying to guide some of the younger kinfolk to smarter choices my motto has always been work smarter not harder, thats what makes me dangerous I can smack a kuffi off somebodies head, and then turn around and intelligently annihilate them, if you like guns we got guns too just go Gunner's Mate and you can play with guns as much as you like, if anybody is thinking of joining a military branch, I strongly recommend Coast Guard, I would do it quick too because all of the prior service(ex-army,marine,navy,air force) people are signing up at a ridiculous rate, and we sure can use some fresh green personalities in the mix.

Word he does need to seriously consider going to college if he doesn't want to pay for it though, he can join the coast guard get tuition assistance take online courses while he's in or night classes and when he gets out he should have his BA and still has his G.I.bill money so he could possibly pursue a Master's degree if he chooses too, I'm mentioning all this about the Coast Guard because there would be an ample amount of time to do all that stuff and can get the same benefits as everybody else without having to dodge bullets.

Sounds similar to the national guard. We go to basic (9 weeks) then job training (length depends on your job) then after that all you have to do is come to drill one weekend out of every month & do 2 week annual training once a year. You can have a FULL course load in the national guard & they're paying 100% tuition PLUS GI bill money. Not to mention if you decide to do it full time like me there are full time national guard jobs. They pay the same as active duty army you just don't get stationed anywhere. That's what I'm doing. Basically I meant to reply to the folks that said you should go to college there's still how you gonna pay for it. College ain't cheap. My brother goes to Clemson & a semester is like 17 grand...
